ankhon hi ankhon mein
That afternoon he was in the company of two pretty ladies dinning at a well known restaurant.‘I just cant believe you never fell in Love, give us something!’ Lekha insisted. Aarohi had given up, 6 months and he still hadn’t opened up.
That day he did.
Mumbai, 1988
Rudransha made it a point to visit the library every day. It was here he spent time with his true love. Books; he loved reading from history to fiction to drama. The best time of his day was when he walked into the library and spent hours together in their company.
Girls never seemed caught his attention, they were a species he rather not waste his time on unless it was to pull a prank. All the girls in the colony avoided being around this naughty prankster!
The colony had 10 apartments, 3 floors, each occupied by the bank officials and their families. School was just a stones throw from the main gate, the supermarket found its place at the northern end, park shared between two buildings had kids running around every evening, while officers enclave had the officers share a drink every Saturday, surrounded by lush green trees, Jyoti Nivas was a perfect place to build a home. The Library was a 10 min walk from his apartment.
One fine afternoon, engrossed in reading, he heard a voice, the voice was requesting the librarian to let her keep the book for one more week. He was intrigued,he recognised all the species voices in the colony who rarely visited his holy temple, this one though was unknown. He moved closer to the voice, he had to see the alien who was talking to his fav uncle, and then she turned.
Their eyes met.
It was not until, uncle interrupted them, did they realize they were gazing into each others eyes. The voice was the same girl, the girl who he saw every evening in the balcony reading a book, while he lay reading his favorite comic strip on the hammock. The Aroras had moved into the building opposite to his just 3 weeks ago. Sonia was about 2 years younger , and was attending the same school as his.
Not used being nice to girls, he just turned and resumed his old position. But his mind just wouldn’t let him concentrate, he kept going back to those eyes, they spoke soo much without actually
The next day,he left for the library half an hour later than his usual time. She was there. It seemed to him like she was waiting for him. This time he smiled. She returned the smile. He went up to his fav table and continued with his book. They didn’t exchange any words.
That day started a ritual, for next two years, they never spoke to each other, the eyes did all the talking. It was unspoken, but they both understood it. They grew up , he moved out to pursue his career while she left the place to pursue higher education.
6 years later. Bangalore.
To Celebrate his teams success, Rudransha decided to take all of them out for lunch. Just the other day one of his friend had mentioned about this new place that opened up close to their office. The food he heard was good. Being a lover of food, he was always game for something new, he booked a table for 10 for the following Monday.
Monday
Team was excited, they reached the venue right on time. As he entered the restaurant, his eyes started inspecting the place, somewhere during the inspection his eyes got stuck to a pair of beautiful eyes that seemed to be looking at his direction. Those eyes seemed familiar. He had seen them before, he knew them. There was this pull, he just couldn’t take his eyes off them.
The eyes he had fallen in love with as a teenager were looking right at him.It was her. 6 years later, they found each other in the restaurant. It doesn’t happen to everyone, he happened to him. This time, he walked up to her. She smiled, they didn’t speak much, they didn’t have to, the eyes did all the talking. She was leaving for US in 3 weeks, they exchanged phone numbers.
He left the place after lunch, smiling the rest of the day. Destiny, a bridge you built to your loved one? There was a reason they were meant to meet, or was there? .Few days later he punched in the numbers, the cell was unreachable. She had the left for US 2 weeks earlier, a sudden change in the plan!
Present day. 3 years on.
‘And that’s how it happened He had narrated the most beautiful love story. Lekha had tears in her eyes, while Aarohi smiled ‘I reason I choose to tell you this is because its here where I met her, the place we are in eating in today!
It was beautiful, heart felt. One doesn’t get to hear these stories often. One doesn’t believe in such stories exists, until someday someone just opens up 🙂
Keeping true to its soul, Aarohi blogged about it.
