Review: Girl on the train (2021).
Genre: Thriller Drama. Duration: 120 minutes Network: Netflix. Released: February 26th.
Girl on the train (2021), an Netflix original is a remake of a 2016 movie of the same name starring Emily Blunt which was adapted from the best selling novel by Paula Hawkins “The Girl on the Train”.Phew 😅.
Unfortunately, this version falls flat on its face. You are treated to a half baked, poorly executed , hurried version of the original. It’s a shame, really. A brilliant opportunity wasted.
The book,an acclaimed best seller is a narrative thriller revolving around three women as they deal with domestic violence and alcoholism in their lives. The 2016 version earned Emily Blunt a BAFTA nomination for best actress, while the film won People’s choice award for favorite thriller movie.
The storyline sticks to the original story except how it ends. Mira kapoor an alcoholic suffering from anterograde amnesia after a personal loss, is obsessed with the girl Nusrat and her seemingly perfect live as she watches her everyday from the same window of same train on her daily commute to London.Nusrat represents everything that Mira once shared with her ex husband, a perfectly happy life. But all is not what it seems, When Nusrat is found dead,Mira becomes the prime suspect. Could Mira have done it?Can she trust her memory to help her before she gets caught?
From shoddy screenplay to awful editing and sadly lackluster performances the film has nothing working for it.
One thing to note is how the director focussed and relied heavily on eye make to portray the intensity of the character, the darker the kajal, the more disintegrated is our protagonist.
The directors zips and zaps through present and past, giving you little to no time to connect with the characters. The story seems rushed, even the twist in the ending brings nothing to the table.
There is not one good thing to note here. It’s a thumbs down all the way for me.I wish I could find anything nice to write here about it.Sorry!!

Wasn’t too keen on it anyway but now I have 2 hours of my treasured me time , saved to watch something better …
Good decision.Let me know if you find something interesting. I am always on a lookout for good thrillers
The part ‘director relied heavily on the eye makeup’ is so true. I felt the same too while watching the movie.
You felt it too !It was so sad to see such a brilliant chance wasted.
