Review: Tell Me Your Secrets.

Review: Tell Me Your Secrets.

Genre: Thriller. Duration: 10 episodes. Network: Amazon Prime Released: February 19th, 2021. Verdict: Decent watch.

When the trailer boasts of “From the makers of Big Little Lies and The Undoing” the two shows I have thoroughly enjoyed watching, this was a no brainer .

Tell me your secrets is a complex dark thriller. Every character that makes an appearance has a murky and troubling backstory, the trouble beings when their paths cross over. The star cast is stellar with some powerful performances, sadly there are few and in between.

I am on the fence with this one. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it.It’s the storyline that missed a mark for me.

Lily Rabe from the famous American Horror Story and more recently TheUndoing is fabulous in her role as Karen Miller/Emma Hall. Amy Brenneman, is very convincing as Mary ,the grieving obsessed mother , who goes as far as hiring a convicted predator to hunt down another predator and then there is Hank Lanklister, who plays Jon , the rapist out on bail looking for redemption until he meets Amy.

The premises of the story revolves around a mother desperately trying to find her missing daughter Theresa, who was last seen in the vicinity of the convicted murderer Kit. While Kit confesses to brutal murders of 9 young girls , he doesn’t reveal any details about Theresa, despite Mary repeatedly requesting a meeting with him.

When Kit ends up killing himself in the prison, Mary in a desperate act to find out the truth , forces Jon, a convicted rapist to find Karen, Kit’s now ex-girlfriend who has been given witness protection.

Emma Hall, Karen’s new identity, has been struggling with memory loss that was triggered by trauma of the murders and instead of living a quiet life as repeatedly told by her therapist Pete with a murky past himself, gets embroiled in a scandal involving young girls who go missing from a local foster home. This is another story playing in background.

Emma’s flashbacks gives you a sneak into her past but just not enough to for you to connect the dots.

The final two episodes, the showdown between Emma, Mary and Jon is when the mystery surrounding Theresa unravels.

The big reveal is a definite surprise and here I will give it to series, I wouldn’t have guessed it.

Just when you think the show is over, they throw in the cliffhanger involving Emma, her daughter Freya and the missing Theresa, ensuring you may just get a second season.

If you are team Thriller like me , go ahead give it watch. I left out the big reveal. Tell me what you thought of it?

if not, I would say skip this one and go watch The Undoing instead. That’s my current favorite.
