Taekwondo.

Taekwondo.

🎉V is now a senior Red Belt. Yohooo!🎉

🎉She’s exactly one belt away from becoming a Black Belt.🎉

Note:When I started blogging again,I picked pseudo names for the girls based on the characters that best described them. However as I am blogging more often now,I find using their initials easier and relatable. That’s why Ms. Curious was changed to “V” and Ms. Little to “N”.

V has been attending Taekwondo for close to 3 years now. It was September of 2018 when we went in for her first class and here we are in 2021 on the verge of becoming a Black belt.It has taken a lot of practice, patience and hard work from her to reach where she’s today and we are so PROUD of her.

Does this mean now she could bash up the bad guys just like we have seen in movies?Oh,that would be awesome wouldn’t it? Well, let’s be realistic she’s just 8 years old, getting a black belt at this age means she is now aware of her strength and has the knowledge on how best to defend herself or help someone if the need ever rises.

She does try the self defense techniques on us specially when we are least expecting it.She forgets I am her mum,I have my own defense system.😂 Dad gives in too easily and Little well she does what she best can, scream and run.😂

Getting your black belt denotes competency in the art form, however to achieve mastery one has to keep practicing and moving up the level by earning your dans or degrees in black belt.Higher the dan, greater is her mastery in that skill.

She’ll have to put in years of practice to master the skills and then yes she most definitely could beat up the bad guys just like in movies!Yay I almost pictured her doing it LOL.

Until then head down,practice on.

Taekwondo is the oldest form of Korean martial art where Tae stands for “Foot“,Kwon stands for “Fists” and Do stands for “Art“.Plainly put it means the art of using all parts of the body for self defense.

I learned about this Taekwondo school from a mom whose daughter was attending the same ballet classes as V back then. The same evening S and I decided to try the trial classes for V.There has been no looking back since then.

I clearly remember her first class dressed in crisp white uniform nervous as a chicken when she was asked to bow to the master before she stepped on the mat or Dojang. There was pin drop silence in the class, all you could hear was her Master’s voice.

As Master Yoo. a 7th degree black belt, went through the rules on the first day I realized this wasn’t going to be like her other classes. There is zero tolerance for misbehavior.

Taekwondo is not only about kicking and self defense, they also emphasize on discipline, respect, self confidence courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

Ms. V has always been a lean kid,she was a preemie and never really gained the lost weight. Our intent to start taekwondo was to enable her with the right skills and the knowledge on how to defend herself. We didn’t know that she would be learning more than that.

Accepting her Senior Red Belt

Yes,once Ms. N turns 6,she most definitely will join her Akka in Taekwondo, until then while she has the chance she will accompany her sister in push ups.

Remote Taekwondo Class

Did I tell you that this skill is not limited to children?Taekwondo is for all ages.Right now in V’s batch there is a father daughter duo training to be a black belt. How cool is that?!

Fun fact,I learnt Karate when I was about 10 years old.I was a purple belt.I boast about it even today whenever I get a chance LOL.No,I don’t remember any of my forms but even today as V practices her kicks I am able to step in and do it with her because I once learnt something similar.

Self defense is like swimming, once you learn how to swim you just can’t unlearn the skill. It stays with you forever.

There is so much more to Taekwondo, some day I’ll cover more in-depth information on a separate post. For now,you could look up at these links if you like more information https://punchermedia.com/what-is-taekwondo/ or https://www.taekwondonation.com/.

Thanks for dropping by.Ciao
