The Buddy List

The Buddy List

The Buddy List, five types of friends a woman must have, an article  that was featured in Bangalore Times couple of years ago, to be precise in 2010. Sifting through the drafts folder of my older blog, this particular post caught my eye.

I decided to rework on it, I have met some amazing people since then and there are those I have lost in touch with, Its only fair that I post my new updated list here.

So I did, I worked on it earnestly, giving some serious thought on who would fit where? A day working on it ,I gave up.

How do I slot my (few yet dear) friends into these categories. My friend circle has shrunk to include only those I can call for anything anytime and not worry about perceptions, just be myself. They all find their place in this ‘buddy list’ , it would be unfair to even attempt at dissecting what I share with each one of them individually.

In  your 20’s , you are excited about everything, you make friends at the drop of a hat. I would have probably conjured a list with a blink of an eye way back in 2010!
I am not 20 something anymore , I no longer subscribe to the idea of  making friends with every tom dick and harry. Neither do I have the patience to give my time to everyone. I am still excited, but I know what excites me and I choose wisely with whom I share my excitement. Only the privileged few get to listen to my wisecracks, not everyone is as lucky ;).
Incase you are wondering about the 5 types, here is the list.  Enjoy!

Lifestyle Buddy: Her likes and dislikes mirror yours, you share love for shopping and and chatter for hours about everything in your lives. .If she suggests a restaurant/movie/film, you’ll know you will love it.

Comfort Blanket Buddy: You’ve known her forever ; through bad haircuts, bad break-ups and garish make-up. even if you drift apart from time to time, you know she’s there. Call her when you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed by your job or your family.

9-5 Buddy: This friendship requires strong foundations and an even thicker skin. You’ll clash, console and commiserate together, and she’s heard you moan about mother, husband and boss alike. This friend helps you get through the darkest of work days.

ALL-WEATHER FRIEND :It feels like you’ve been friends forever (even if you haven’t) and they’re the strongest pillar in your support network. She knows the good, bad and ugly about you and hasn’t run a mile. People often comment how “like peas in a pod” you are and they’re right

MAN-MATE :There are times when your girlfriends just don’t cut it and you need to look further afield. Man-mates give you insight into the male mentality and never mince words about you choice of outfit. If you don’t have one already, make finding a man-mate your mission of 2010
