Trails: The Bellefields Loop Trail

Trails: The Bellefields Loop Trail

Right in the middle of the Bellevue city,Washington just 30 minutes drive from our home lies one of the easiest, fun, scenic kid friendly trail called the Bellefields Loop Trail. We did this trail the evening before we went on the RattleSnake Trail.

The Bellefields trails lies in the 320-acre Mercer Slough Nature Park and it loops through upland forest and scrub-shrub wetland,a scenic gift for those tired eyes.

The Mercer Slough is Lake Washington’s largest remaining wetland and home to to about 170 species of wildlife. It has 3 trails and based on your mood and can choose from any of the three trails –Periphery Trail,Heritage Trail and finally the Bellefields Loop Trail.

We started from the east side of the Mercer Slough Nature park and ended up doing the Bellefields Loop Trail.

The loop begins with a dirt path leading you straight to a small stream. It was a hot day and this stream was a welcome sight even if we had just started. We stopped here on our way in and out and I clicked countless pictures of the girls against this serene backdrop.

The whole loop took us about over an hour to complete, this was more of leisure trail walk for us. The girls just had fun running ,sprinting in every direction when they had a chance.

The Interconnected elevated boardwalks were the best part of this trail. The backdrop was way too gorgeous to not click some fun pictures of the girls 😛.

We did over 3 miles from start to back. There were families who had carried picnic basket and just parked themselves in one of the open fields next to Heritage loop. That seemed like a fun idea on a weekday when there are no crowds.

This is one of the trails you can do on any given day,if you have just about an hour to spare then head to this park and choose any of the trails.Run,jog or just take a stroll down this trail.

On this hot day we spotted many canoeists enjoying the warm weather against this beautiful background and were tempted to try one ourselves .Alas we weren’t carrying a canoe that day 😂.

There are many interpretive signs all along the way that give you a good look at the history of this wetland. The girls stopped at all the signs,Ms. V did the reading and Ms. N just enjoyed the pictures.

Along the way we took a diversion and went on the Heritage Trail. This trail takes you through the famous Overlake Bellevue Blueberry farms that was established in the year 1947.Since then every summer between mid-July to mid-September they open up for families to come join a nice summer picnic and U-pick blueberries.Something to keep in mind for this summer.

Did I mention this before? We use the All Trails app for all our hikes now.It gives you detailed information on the trails you are about to embark on.Before your next trail download this one to keep a track on your activity, trail map.

This was a fun trail we did with the kids and right before the arduous Rattlesnake Ledge Trail.

Always stay young at heart no matter your age
